Lavonia Cultural Center
The Cultural Center is located on Highway 17 South, only 1/4 mile from Lavonia City Hall. It opened in 2005 in a former National Guard Armory. For the first three years, the Center was primarily used for holding a Festival of Trees Fundraiser at Christmas and for other special events such as the Red Hat Holiday Tea. The facility has now undergone transformation into a Cultural Center, with major emphasis on a theater for Land of Spirit folk life productions.
The Center has comfortable seating for over 200; professional theater heating and air conditioning system for noise control; and, sufficient kitchen space and office accommodations. Renovations continue as funding becomes available.
Until sufficient funding is available for a full time director, management is under the direction of Genny Cole with the Better Hometown and Downtown Development Authority, assisted by Vivian Young. Volunteers are utilized for conducting events, such as: Land of Spirit folk life play; art shows; quilt shows; and other theater and musical performances.
