A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT

 

To amend an Act providing a new charter for the City of Lavonia, approved May 13, 2002 (Ga. L. 2002, p. 5809), so as to change the provisions regarding the city's boundaries; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

 

SECTION 1.

An Act providing a new charter for the City of Lavonia, approved May 13, 2002 (Ga. L. 2002, p. 5809), is amended by striking subsection (a) of Section 1.11 and inserting in its place the following:
"(a) The boundaries of this city shall be as described in:
(1) An Act approved June 4, 1964 (Ga. L. 1964, Ex. Sess., p. 2008);
(2) An Act approved April 16, 1999 (Ga. L. 1999, p. 4553); and
(3) Any annexation action taken by the city pursuant to general law and shown as part of the corporate limits on the official map of the corporate limits of the City of Lavonia dated February 15, 2003, which map is retained in the office of the mayor of the city, with such alterations as may be made from time to time in the manner provided by law.
The boundaries of this city at all times shall be shown on a map, a written description, or any combination thereof to be retained permanently in the office of the mayor and to be designated, as the case may be: 'Official Map of the corporate limits of the City of Lavonia, Georgia.' Photographic, typed, or other copies of such map or description certified by the city manager shall be admitted as evidence in all courts and shall have the same force and effect as with the original map or description."

SECTION 2.

All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.

 

{Commentary:  This amendment to the City’s Charter more specifically described the City’s corporate boundaries by reference to previous Acts establishing the same.  This bill was passed by the House on April 09, 2003, passed by the Senate on April 17, 2003, sent to the Governor on May 01, 2003, and signed by the Governor on May 30, 2003.}
