History of the Lavonia Cultural Center Great ideas are mysterious things. Recently, an idea so simple that it seemed incredible that no one had thought of it before, came to Mayor Ralph Owens. He suggested that the Festival of Trees be moved from the Depot to the old armory building. Genny Cole, Judy Hulsey and members of the Lavonia Downtown Development Authority thought about it, and decided that it would be good to transform the building into a cultural center. Creating a concept plan, and getting people involved was the first step. Now, progress is underway, and the rental office will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 until 2:00p.m. (and by appointment, as needed) The Cultural Center can be rented for a wide variety of events, such as an art show, art lessons, health & fitness classes and/or show, dance lessons, musical and theater performances, antique car show, children's camps, family reunion, and parties (business and private). Don't forget to book early to use the center for your Christmas party. The decorations from the Festival of Trees will remain in place until after 1/1/07. The Lavonia Cultural Center is accepting tax deductible donations and the following items are still on the list: |
