Economic Profile
In June of 2009, Ty Cobb Healthcare System announced plans to consolidate two hospitals serving Hart and Franklin counties and build a new 56 bed facility on I-85 near exit 173 in Lavonia, Franklin County, Georgia. The new hospital will be a state of the art 144,000 square foot facility, with a total investment cost of approximately $70 million dollars. The new hospital has committed to retain over 300 jobs by consolidating and building a new facility, and anticipates that the new facility will add approximately 25 new employees within three years of opening. It is further anticipated that the new physician medical office building will bring an additional 25 jobs to the new campus within the first three years. On November 20, 2009 the state Dept. of Community Health issued a "Certificate of Need" for the new hospital and plans are to start construction in early 2010, and move into the new facility in Fall of 2011.
