A Greater Lavonia Community, Inc. (AGLC) was founded over eight years ago. It is a 501 C3 non-profit foundation, established for the purpose of supporting the arts and other educational or non- profit programs for the betterment of our community. A 501 C3 approved identity, by the federal government, allows for all donations made to the foundation to be tax deductible. And, it allows the foundation to apply for grants from various private and public resources.
The name “Greater Lavonia” was selected, meaning an area greater than the city of Lavonia – it means all of Franklin County and surrounding communities. Its broad boundaries allow the Foundation to be supportive of projects other than Land of Spirit which was the primary purpose for its original founding.
The foundation is governed by a Board of Directors and Managed by Vivian Young, Executive Director. Members of the Board include: Margaret Ayers, Harold Harbin (Chair),Kathy Beacham, Barbara Busby, Wanda Morgan, Gary Fesperman, Mary Dowell, Logan Mathis, Candy Ross and Barbara Clark.
Several times throughout the year AGLC, Inc. sponsors fundraising projects, with proceeds going to pay for Land of Spirit productions.
The largest fund drive by AGLC is the “Annual Supporter” drive for Land of Spirit. There is an extra large Bronze Plaque as you entered the theater. The people listed paid $1,000 or more in cash or in kind services to become a Charter Land of Spirit Supporter. Next, down the long hallway is a Black and Gold 2009 Land of Supporter plaque and these supporters paid $250.00 or more in cash or in kind services. YOU CAN BECOME A 2010 LAND OF SPIRIT SUPPORTER and have your name or an ‘In Memory name’, for the price of $250.00 or more in cash or in kind services. Contact Vivian Young for more information or you may make your check payable to AGLC, Inc. and mail to Vivian Young, 1269 East Main Street, Lavonia, GA 30553. She, in return, will provide you with a letter for your tax deduction!
Thank you in advance for your support to Land of Spirit, Franklin County’s Folk Life Play.
